History of Lighthouse Food Rescue & Distribution

Lighthouse Food Rescue & Distribution started back in 2020, during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. A few people came united together with one goal in mind: feeding the needy in San Jose. They kickstarted their mission by packing up food in bags and passed them out to the homeless community in San Jose. The operation was being carried out from the garage of Elena Villalobos. With their zeal and tenacity, this small group of people were able to make an impact within the homeless community in San Jose.

This eventually led to an open opportunity for them to acquire a building on the corner of 17th and Julian. In 2021, Lighthouse Food Rescue & Distribution officially opened their food pantry to the public as a non-profit organization. The organization operates as a free farmer’s market-style store, adhering to the poor and unhoused’s needs. Lighthouse Food Rescue & Distribution throughout the years has obtained multiple partnerships and gained the trust of the community. There are over hundreds of people that line up to grab food from the food pantry on a daily basis. The non-profit organization has plans to further expand its influence throughout the community of San Jose in the foreseen future.
